The orchid has a potent energy and historically has been associated with fertility and sexuality. In ancient Greece, orchids were associated with virility. In fact, Greek women believed that if the father of their unborn child ate large, new orchid tubers, the baby would be a boy. If the mother ate small orchid tubers, she would give birth to a girl. Gaius Plinius Secundus (AD 23/24 – 79) known, as Pliny the Elder was a Roman author, a naturalist and natural philosopher, claimed that even holding the roots of an orchid would stimulate one to ecstasy.
